About Hedleys

Hedleys and Co Solicitors was established in Sunderland in 1880 by Alfred Octavius Hedley who was the eighth son in his family.

Initially, the firm’s area of expertise was linked to ship owning and ship building companies based in Wearside.

Perhaps more importantly, from the city’s point of view, this was also the year that saw Sunderland AFC begin to play football under their now famous name.

The practice, like Sunderland Football club, has become synonymous with the city of Sunderland and both continue to perform in their respective Premier Leagues – (if only The Stadium of Light was as impressive as our offices!)

Over the 129 years since Hedleys was established, the company has grown in size and scope, now providing a much wider range of legal services.
